The Spanish steps are a wonderfully romantic place to visit. They comprise of a long staircase which connects Piazza Trinità dei Monti at the top and Piazza di Spagna at the base. The steps were built in the seventeenth century in order to connect the Vatican with the Spanish embassy. The Steps serve as the backdrop for many events all year long in Rome, including wonderful floral exhibits in the spring, the Donna Sotto le Stelle fashion show in the summer and a Christmas nativity scene.
